How to Prepare for Holiday Travel

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and celebrations. But if you're one of the millions of people traveling this holiday season, it can also be a time of stress and anxiety.

Whether flying cross-country to visit relatives or to take a road trip to see the sights, preparing for your trip in advance can help ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey. Here are a few tips to get you started:

Start Early

The early bird gets the worm—or in this case, the best deals on flights and hotels.

If possible, try to book your travel arrangements several weeks or even months in advance. Not only will you save money, but you'll also have your pick of dates and times. And if you're traveling with young children, it's always best to have your plans firmly in place well before the chaos of the holidays descends.

Make a List—and Check It Twice

Okay, so you might not be Santa Claus, but making a list is still an essential part of preparing for holiday travel. Start by making a list of everything you'll need to pack—clothes, toiletries, medications, etc.—then check it off as you go. It's also a good idea to make copies of important documents like your passport and driver's license, just in case you lose them while you're away from home. And speaking of documents…

Get Your Papers in Order

If you're traveling internationally, check the visa requirements of your destination country well in advance of your trip.

Some countries require that visitors obtain a visa before they enter, while others allow travelers to apply for a visa upon arrival. No matter the requirements, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete the necessary paperwork; there's nothing worse than being denied entry because your paperwork isn't in order!

Following these simple tips can help take some of the stress out of holiday travel. Start early, make a list, and get your papers in order. And most importantly, try to relax and enjoy the ride! Wherever your travels may take you this holiday season, safe journeys!
